I am delighted that pupils from Perton Middle School have placed first in the Solutions for the Planet Big Ideas Competition this week.
Team ‘Dipliflowcus’ from Perton Middle School located in Perton, South Staffordshire blew judges away with their unique dinosaur-design, renewable energy generator. Commentators said the team of four further “impressed the room with their engaging presentation style” at the annual ‘Big Ideas Competition’ national final, held in The Palace of Westminster on Wednesday 2nd July 2025.
The Big Ideas Competition is organised by company ‘Solutions for the Planet.’ The annual competition empowers 11 to 14 year olds to develop and present innovative solutions to sustainability challenges such as energy consumption, and is backed by the likes of industry giants Cadent and Tarmac.
It’s fantastic to see young people take an interest in the world around them and engage with their peers to come up with such a creative idea for renewable technology.
Sustainability and renewable energy can be a really complex issue. So to come up with such a brilliant way to conserve our environment, rooted in the thousands of years of history, is fantastic.
It was a privilege to meet ‘Team Dipliflowcus’ in Parliament, and I was proud to see them demonstrate such a high level of academic excellence and professionalism on the national stage.
