As I reach the midway point of my Volunteer's Week, I have been reflecting on how lucky we are to have so many excellent community initiatives. From providing support for the very youngest at Brierley Hill Babybank, to working with those of us who have been here the longest at Bridge Manor Care Home - I have been fortunate to contribute to our hard-working volunteers across our constituency.
I began the day by serving customers at the brilliant Compton's Care Cafe. Located in Codsall Community Hub, proceeds from Compton’s Cafe contribute to specialist patients care for those living with life limiting conditions and support for their families. With the cafe open to the public five days a week, I cannot recommend paying a visit highly enough, Why not stop by for a delicious bite to eat when you're next in Codsall? Also, I want to say a big hank you to the team at Compton's Cafe for supporting my Volunteers Week and for your patience whilst training me as a barista for the day!
I also popped into The Volunteer's Recruitment Fair, which was being held at the Hub in Codsall this morning. I spoke with representatives from the Kingswood Trust, who are currently recruiting for volunteers. Find out more about how you can get involved: https://discover-kingswood.org.uk
After, I stopped by the Warm Hub, also in Codsall, and got 'swept up' speaking to Councillors Meg Barrow and Val Chapman about the fantastic work they're doing to combat loneliness. This brilliant intiative is a great example of local community activists coming together with businesses to make sure that the older people in our communities have somewhere warm and safe where they can socialise and enjoy a good meal. The Warm hub in Codsall takes place on Wednesdays from 10am until 12 noon. I also want to say thank you to the organisers for allowing me to join them.
Finally, I stopped by a Bridge Manor Care Home in Wombourne, where I had a brilliant time speaking with residents and staff alike about the fantastic work they're undertaking to keep residents active through creative activities. Today I took part in a seasonal craft, and found myself carving pumpkins with residents. It was great fun, an it was also good to chat with Care staff about the highlights and challenges of their profession.
I look forward to sharing a further update on my activities tomorrow!
