On Wednesday 3 September 2025, Mike Wood MP spoke in the House of Commons during the Opposition Day Debate on Government support for the hospitality sector.
In his speech, Mike highlighted the damaging impact of recent tax rises on pubs, restaurants, and other businesses across the industry. He warned that thousands of jobs are at risk, and that high streets could be “hollowed out” without urgent Government action.
Quoting UKHospitality, Mike emphasised that hospitality has been “taxed out of existence,” with more than half of all job losses since October occurring in the sector. He called on Ministers to change course and give businesses the chance to grow and create jobs once again.
