Mike Wood MP's recent Jobs, Skills and Apprenticeships Fair in Wombourne has been hailed a success. The MP for Kingswinford and South Staffordshire bought together a wide range of employers, training providers, and local residents eager to explore new opportunities at the recent event, held on Friday 10th March 2026.

The event was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Tipton & Coseley Building Society, whose support helped ensure a successful and well-attended day. Thanks are also extended to Wombourne Parish Council for providing an excellent venue and helping to facilitate such an important community initiative.

Mike Wood MP said:

“I was delighted to be bringing the fair back for another year, and to be hosting it in Wombourne, right at the heart of the constituency.

”While overall unemployment in our area has fallen slightly over the past year, we have seen a rise in the number of 18 to 24-year-olds claiming unemployment benefits. Securing that first step into work can be particularly challenging for young people, which makes it all the more important to bring opportunities directly to them through this event.

“As in previous years, a wide range of employers and training providers attended and it proved an excellent opportunity for anyone considering a career change, or taking their first step on the career ladder, to come along and explore what’s on offer.”

The fair created a valuable space for residents to connect directly with employers, learn about current vacancies, and gain insight into the skills and training needed to progress in today’s job market. From apprenticeships to full-time roles, a broad range of opportunities was on offer, all brought directly into the heart of the community.

Richard Groom, chief customer officer at the Tipton & Coseley Building Society, said:

“Mike Wood MP’s Jobs, Skills & Apprenticeship Fair is a fantastic platform for introducing people to training and employment opportunities across the local area, and we were delighted to sponsor this event.

“As a local building society, now proudly serving the community from our new branch in Codsall, we see the value in bringing residents and employers closer together and making connections that could shape their future.”

Following the success of the event, Mr Wood has revealed that plans are now underway to develop an Online Jobs Portal. This will serve as a convenient, one-stop hub where residents can access all of the vacancies showcased at the fair, ensuring that those who were unable to attend, as well as those wishing to revisit opportunities, can still benefit.
