Most of our lives have been affected by the devastating news of a cancer diagnosis, with one in two of us predicted to suffer from the disease at some point during our lifetime. Cancer affects every family, and I know all to well the devastating impact of the 630 new diagnosis each year in Kingswinford & South Staffordshire.
As you might know, this matters to me not just as an MP campaigning for better outcomes and fairer support, but also because my Senior Parliamentary Researcher, Dan Horrocks has faced three cancerous tumours since he first began working for me in 2015.
Since this time last year, I've been backing legislation to make patient access to medicine for rare cancers easier with The Rare Cancers Bill. I've also worked to highlight the staggering impact brain tumours have on individuals, families and our economy by hosting The Brain Tumour Charity report in Parliament back in December.
That's why on World Cancer Day, I’m proud to support the APPG on Cancer to help ensure everyone living with cancer can access the care, treatment and support they need, wherever they live.
I'm also proud to support Cancer Research UK & I hope today's publication of the National Cancer Plan makes the vital difference that cancer patients in England need and deserve.
